Taking flight: Kansas athletes soar to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games on a journey of unity, pride and possibility
The Special Olympics Airlift is more than a journey — it's a celebration of achievement, teamwork and the spirit of competition. As hundreds of athletes and coaches prepare to fly to the Twin Cities, excitement is soaring. With 100,000 fans expected from all 50 states, the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will be one of Minnesota’s largest humanitarian events, creating a legacy of inspiration and unity.
For Kansas athletes, the Airlift is a defining moment. Becca from Haysville shares, “To be selected again to compete in the 2026 USA Games is a remarkable culmination of everything I’ve been working towards. It’s more than just a competition; it’s a profound opportunity to represent my state, my team and everyone who believes in the power of sport.” For Becca, wearing the Kansas uniform is an immense honor and the Airlift is a chance to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of inspiring athletes.
Kiel, a tennis athlete, echoes the excitement. "I love the competition and representing Kansas. I'm hoping to win gold in tennis. Flying on the private jets was fun — the send-off party made me feel special, like a celebrity," he said.
For Brandi, the Airlift is about independence and pride. “Arriving in style on a private jet was unforgettable. I’ve never traveled without my family right there with me — this is an experience I will never forget,” she said.
